Primary Framework - Guided Writing
15 min - Jul 1, 2008
St Peter's Primary School in Telford has an excellent reputation for creative teaching and learning, and in the first of a three part series, educational writer John Richmond visits the school to see how it has embraced guided writing. In a Year 1 and Year 2 class, the children compile factual guide books about castles, and teacher Nichola Lewis guides the children to use challenging descriptive words from their vocabulary lists. Meanwhile, a Year 5 and Year 6 group is writing a suspense story, and teacher Claire James helps the children to empathise with the protagonist. The work doesn't stop with the children however, with parents taking part in a special writing workshop to learn about guided writing. The Primary Framework series looks at areas that are difficult to deliver and visits schools which have been identified for their excellent practices in these areas.
